See the colour in the stone.
Look at the pale chips beside the stone wall. In the revived view you can pick out cream, white and honey tones. Slide across to see how a film of dirt can dull the colour between the stones.
A trial on your own resin is the best way to judge colour and sheen. If stones are coming loose, tell Harlan before you consider a coating.

A more considered finish
What can cleaning and rejuvenation change?
See the stone again
A suitable clean reveals the texture and colour beneath dirt and organic growth. That clearer starting point may be all the surface needs.
Choose the finish you enjoy
Where a rejuvenator is suitable, a trial helps you compare the change in colour and sheen before committing to the whole driveway.
Keep everyday use in view
Walking routes, parking, grip and drainage are considered together, so appearance is only one part of choosing the treatment.
See the surface clearly
Cleaning may be all it needs. Rejuvenation is a separate decision.
Resin-bound driveways, paths and patios can lose their definition beneath dirt, leaves and organic growth. Once these are removed using a suitable method, the aggregate may look noticeably clearer without any new coating.
A rejuvenator or compatible sealer is considered when the surface is sound but its finish would benefit from further treatment. It can alter the sheen and deepen the appearance of the stone. It does not replace missing aggregate, rebuild a weak base or guarantee the disappearance of every stain.
The terms resin driveway restoration, resealing and rejuvenation are often used together. Your quotation should say exactly which work is proposed and why.
Before any product is chosen
Which resin surface do you have?
Resin-bound and resin-bonded surfaces are different constructions. A familiar-looking finish is not enough to identify the right treatment.
Aggregate mixed through resin
The stones and resin are mixed before laying. Many resin-bound systems are designed to allow water through connected spaces between the stones, with the full construction influencing drainage. Keeping those spaces functional matters.
Aggregate scattered onto resin
Stone is broadcast onto a resin layer. It needs its own maintenance assessment. Advice and coatings for a resin-bound surface cannot automatically be transferred to resin-bonded paving.
Useful signs for an initial assessment
- The surface feels firm and remains securely bonded.
- The concern is mainly dirt, organic growth or a tired finish.
- The installer, resin system or previous treatment can be identified.
- Drainage, access and a small trial area can be assessed.
Reasons to investigate before revival
- Loose stone, soft areas, movement or lifting edges.
- Cracks, missing sections or repeated puddling.
- A peeling, cloudy or unknown previous coating.
- Yellowing, discolouration or an installation still under warranty.
These signs do not have one universal remedy. The installer or product manufacturer may need to advise before cleaning or coating proceeds.
A measured sequence
How resin driveway revival is planned.
The preparation and the decision to coat deserve as much attention as the finish. Cleaning and rejuvenation may need separate visits to allow appropriate drying and suitable weather.
No universal pressure setting. The resin manufacturer’s care instructions, condition and trial result guide cleaning. Advice for one brand is not a safe specification for every resin driveway.
Identify the surface
Review age, installer records, resin type, repairs, coatings and the areas of concern. Check edges, visible damage and how water leaves the surface.
Clean appropriately
Remove loose debris and use a cleaning method suited to the resin. Any growth or stain treatment needs compatibility checks and a plan for runoff and surrounding plants.
Reassess when dry
Judge what the clean surface actually needs. If cleaning delivers the desired result, a further treatment may offer little benefit.
Trial the proposed finish
Where rejuvenation is appropriate, check a representative area for adhesion, appearance, texture and the product’s drainage requirements. Agree the expected finish before treating the whole area.
Apply and allow to cure
Follow the selected system’s preparation, application rate and weather limits. Agree access restrictions and aftercare for the actual product and conditions.
Good looks, practical performance
Colour, grip and drainage belong together.
Preview the sheen
Some rejuvenators give a high-gloss or wet-look finish. That is a change in appearance, not a new stone blend. A sample helps you judge the finish in your light and setting.
Consider the way it is used
Slopes, steps, turning areas and walking routes need particular care. Any grip additive must be compatible with the system. A gloss finish is not evidence of slip resistance.
Respect the drainage design
Where the paving is permeable, the proposed treatment must be compatible with that purpose. More coating is not automatically better. Persistent ponding needs investigation before treatment.
UV stability has limits. A UV-stable rejuvenator is designed to resist its own yellowing; it does not prove that an already discoloured resin base can be reversed. Some products exclude non-UV resin altogether. Existing-system compatibility must be checked.
A useful quotation
What does resin driveway revival cost?
The area is only one part of the price. Cleaning needs, stains, previous coatings, repairs, product choice, application rate, access and visits all affect the work.
A meaningful quote separates cleaning from any optional rejuvenating treatment. It identifies the proposed finish, exclusions and preparation requirements. Structural repair, a new resin overlay and complete replacement are different scopes and should not be assumed to be included.
Share the approximate length and width, a wider photograph, close-ups of problem areas and any installer information. There is no need to know the product name before making an initial enquiry.
Plan access before the appointment.
Drying after cleaning, the weather window, recoating time and return to use are separate stages. Temperature, moisture and the selected product influence the programme.
- Arrange alternative parking where needed.
- Tell us which route to the house must remain accessible.
- Mention pets, children, ponds and sensitive planting.
- Allow the full agreed cure period before traffic returns.
Pet-return details are provided upon enquiry and confirmed for the actual treatment. “Dry to the touch” does not automatically mean ready for vehicles or pets.
Care after revival
Keep the finish working for you.
Sweep away leaves and debris, keep drainage routes clear and deal with spills using the system’s care guidance. Avoid harsh solvents, aggressive washing or another coating unless its compatibility has been confirmed.
Check areas under trees, at edges and along wheel tracks. Future attention should follow the surface’s condition and manufacturer guidance, rather than an automatic promise that every driveway needs resealing at the same interval.

Resin driveway cleaning and resealing questions
Does every resin driveway need resealing?
No. It depends on the installed system, condition and manufacturer’s guidance. An appropriate clean may be sufficient. Coating a sound surface unnecessarily can create avoidable compatibility and future-maintenance questions.
Can you restore a resin driveway that is losing stones?
Loose aggregate can have several causes. A surface treatment is not a substitute for properly diagnosing a failing resin bond or base. The extent and cause of the loss need assessment before a repair or revival option is proposed.
Will rejuvenation remove yellowing or white patches?
Not reliably. Discolouration may come from contamination, moisture, the original resin or a previous coating. Cleaning and a test area help distinguish a removable surface problem from a defect that needs specialist advice.
Will my driveway still let water through?
That depends on the existing construction, condition and selected treatment. Where permeability is part of the design, the product and application must be checked for compatibility. We cannot promise a universal drainage result from the word “sealer”.
How long before I can park on it?
The answer must come from the selected product and actual conditions. Plan for cleaning and drying as well as coating cure time. The agreed return-to-use instructions should distinguish walking, pets and vehicles.
Can resin paths and patios be treated too?
Potentially, if the surface and setting are suitable. Walking routes, slopes, steps and areas near water can need different grip and access arrangements from a flat vehicle driveway.
How long will the revived finish last?
Wear, traffic, shade, cleaning habits, the original surface and the chosen system all influence its life. A supplier’s general claim is not a warranty for your driveway. Any applicable written warranty and maintenance conditions should be stated in the quotation.
Will this affect my installer’s warranty?
It could. If the driveway is under warranty, send its details and seek the installer’s or manufacturer’s advice before another cleaning chemical or coating is used.
Why is the resin wearing where I turn the car?
Turning the wheels while the car is stationary can put extra strain on the same patches of aggregate. Compare the turning area with a sheltered edge. If grains are coming away or the wheel tracks feel different underfoot, send photographs of both places so Harlan can assess whether the installer should look at the wear before treatment.
