Patio, block paving and path cleaning
An entrance, garden terrace or path can lose its appearance beneath surface dirt and organic build-up. The useful first question is what it is made from. Concrete flags, block paving, porcelain and natural stone do not all respond to the same treatment. Joint condition, drainage and any previous coating also matter. Share photographs and the approximate area so the proposed work can be assessed in context.
Patios and terraces
Tell us how the area is used, whether furniture or planters need moving, and whether adjacent borders, doors or conservatories need particular consideration. Include close-ups of staining and a wider photograph of the whole space.
Driveways and entrances
Include the surface type, parking arrangements and any oil, rust or tyre marks. General surface cleaning and specialist stain treatment are different requirements; established staining may remain and should be discussed before work.
Paths and steps
Show narrow access, changes of level, loose edges and any route that must remain available. Cleaning can remove build-up, but it does not repair uneven paving or make every surface slip-proof.

These terms are commonly used for outdoor cleaning with a pressurised water jet. The important question is whether that approach suits your patio or driveway. A sound concrete surface, delicate natural stone and paving with failing joints need different decisions. More pressure is not automatically a better clean.

Moss, algae and persistent patio marks
Loose moss, green surface growth and ingrained black marks are not necessarily the same problem. General cleaning may not remove every stain. Block paving cleaning and joint care
For block-paved driveways and paths, the joints are part of the job assessment. Cleaning and re-sanding are separate items: ask whether joint replenishment is needed and what the quotation includes. Do not assume sealing, weed-proofing, re-levelling or repair work is included. Permeable paving and specialist jointing products need their own maintenance instructions.
Protect the paving as well as its appearance
Manufacturer guidance matters. Excessive pressure can damage some paving or disturb joints; incompatible cleaning chemicals can also affect the material. A suitable method and, where appropriate, a small trial area are more useful than a promise of maximum pressure. Existing cracks, loose slabs and failed joints should be identified before cleaning. Re-sanding, repointing, sealing and structural repairs are not assumed to be included in a cleaning quotation.

Beyond the visit
Results and aftercare
After the work, keep leaves and loose debris from accumulating and watch areas that stay shaded or damp. Future cleaning needs depend on the setting and surface; there is no universal annual interval. Ask about the condition of joints before arranging further maintenance or sealing with an appropriate contractor.

Can every mark be removed?
No. Some marks are embedded, and weathering or existing damage can remain visible after cleaning. Tell us which marks concern you most so realistic expectations can be agreed.
Is pressure washing suitable for every patio?
No. The paving and joints must be assessed first. If you have manufacturer instructions or details of a coating, send them with your enquiry.
Can you include the adjoining path or steps?
Yes, ask for all areas to be considered together. Each surface still needs its own assessment, and the agreed quotation should identify what is included.
