Timber and composite need different decisions
Decking is not simply a patio made from another material. Timber grain, older coatings, composite product type and fixings all affect the cleaning approach. A weathered deck can have a mixture of removable dirt and changes that cleaning will not reverse. Timber decking
Let us know whether the deck is stained, painted, oiled or untreated. Include photographs of worn areas, raised grain, splits and loose boards. Cleaning is not a substitute for assessing rot, repairing fixings or replacing unsound timber.
Composite decking
Supply the brand or installation information if available. Composite ranges have different care instructions; a method allowed for one product may not be suitable for another. Manufacturer guidance takes priority over a one-size-fits-all approach.
Steps, edges and seating areas
Show steps, balustrades, adjacent walls and any planting. Tell us about furniture, hot tubs, outside electrics or other items that cannot be moved. Those details help define a sensible working area.
A visible improvement without unrealistic promises
The aim is to address suitable surface build-up while respecting the original material. Very aggressive cleaning is not automatically a better clean. Product-specific limits and the state of an existing finish must be considered. For example, Trex publishes different care guidance for its decking ranges, so it should not be treated as a rule for all composite boards. Permanent fading, worn coatings, staining and damaged timber may remain visible.

Results and aftercare
Keep leaves and debris from collecting between and around boards, following the decking manufacturer's guidance. Reopening the area and any later oiling or coating depend on drying conditions and the relevant product instructions. Oiling, staining, sealing and repairs are separate work unless explicitly agreed. Wet decking still needs care underfoot after cleaning.
Photographs help the initial assessment. They do not replace any necessary inspection or agreement of the method, scope and access before work.

Can you clean a deck before it is re-oiled?
Ask us to assess it and explain the intended finishing product. Cleaning scope, drying requirements and any remaining old coating need to be considered before further treatment is arranged.
Will cleaning restore the original colour?
Not always. Surface dirt and organic growth are different from weathering, fading or worn finishes. The likely result should be discussed using the actual deck.
Do you clean holiday-let decking?
Enquiries are welcome. Include guest dates, the changeover contact and a realistic window for work and drying rather than assuming the area can be reopened immediately.
