How to prepare for an exterior-cleaning quotation
A few useful details make the first conversation much clearer. Use this guide to explain the work, compare the scope and prepare your Cornwall property once a visit is agreed.
A clear brief, step by step
01 / Before the quotation
Show the area and the problem
Take a wide photograph that shows the complete area, then a closer view of the dirt, staining or damage. Include steps, edges, adjacent walls and access routes. Take every photograph from a safe place; never climb onto a roof or lean out of a window for an enquiry. Avoid including people, vehicle registration details or private information where unnecessary.
02 / Before the quotation
Describe the material and its history
If you know the paving, decking, render or panel brand, include it. Mention coatings, sealants, painting, installation dates and previous cleaning if known. If you are unsure, say so—a photograph is more useful than guessing. Point out cracks, loose joints, flaky surfaces, rotten timber or other defects that may affect suitability.
03 / Before the quotation
Give the location and a practical scale
Send the town or postcode and approximate area or dimensions if you can measure safely. For walls and rooflines, explain the number of storeys and which elevations need attention. For several areas or properties, list them separately and identify your priorities. There is no need to provide an exact measurement before asking for an initial assessment.
04 / Before the quotation
Explain access, water and site use
Tell us about gates, narrow passages, parking, extensions, nearby cables and items that cannot be moved. Mention water availability and any known drainage arrangements. For businesses or holiday lets, include essential access routes, occupancy, guest dates and the person who will arrange entry. Do not send alarm codes or keys through an open enquiry message.
05 / Before the work
Compare the scope—not only the total
Check which surfaces, elevations and treatments are included. Ask whether stain treatment, debris clearance, preparation, waste handling or any follow-up is part of the quoted work. Repairs, re-sanding, coatings and electrical servicing should never be assumed. Agree the expected result and important limitations, particularly where weathering or established staining may remain.
06 / Before the work
Prepare only after arrangements are agreed
Confirm who will provide access and what needs moving before the visit. Agree arrangements for vehicles, furniture, pets, children and people using the area. Weather and the material can affect timing and drying; do not assume immediate reopening. Follow the instructions given for your particular job rather than applying a generic preparation checklist.
Sending photographs and video
The enquiry form includes upload options and states the current file limits. Send a small, relevant selection that shows the surface and access. If a file is too large, use the optional link field where available and ensure the intended recipient can access it. Avoid sharing unrelated personal files.
Your enquiry information is used to assess and respond to the request. Read the Privacy Notice and Data Protection Policy for more detail.
What happens next?
Harlan reviews the details and considers whether the work, journey and access are a practical match. Further questions or a site assessment may be needed before a quotation or date can be agreed. An enquiry is not a confirmed booking.
If there is building damage, an electrical fault or a specialist conservation concern, the appropriate trade or professional may need to assess it first. Cleaning does not replace those services.

Start with your property.
Send the postcode, surfaces and a few clear photographs. Harlan will consider the requirement and the practical next step. Enquiries are welcome across Cornwall; journeys of around 90 minutes from Tintagel are considered according to scope, route and access.
