Gutter, fascia and soffit cleaning in Cornwall
A clearer roofline starts with a clear brief. Tell us whether the problem is debris inside the gutter, dirt on the outside, or both, so the work can be assessed properly.
Clearance and exterior cleaning are not the same job
Dark marks on a fascia and a gutter overflowing in rain can have different causes. An exterior wash improves the appearance of suitable surfaces; removing debris addresses material collected in the gutter. Neither automatically repairs a leaking joint or a badly aligned rainwater system. Kernow Clean considers roofline enquiries across Cornwall around the property height, access and actual requirement.
Gutter clearance enquiries
Describe visible debris, vegetation or overflow and which elevations are affected. Ask for clearance to be identified separately in the quotation. Include conservatories, extensions or narrow passages that may restrict safe access.
External gutter and fascia cleaning
Provide photographs of the outer gutter faces, downpipes and fascia boards. Surface finish and condition matter, particularly where paint is flaking or boards are deteriorating. Existing damage is not resolved by washing.
Soffits and awkward rooflines
Photograph the underside of the roofline from a safe ground position. Vents, cables, changes of height and adjoining buildings affect what can reasonably be reached and cleaned.
Observe the symptoms; agree the scope
Regular observation helps identify overflowing water, staining below joints and other changes. Historic England's maintenance checklist recommends checking rainwater systems and paying attention after leaf fall. Cleaning frequency is property-specific: nearby trees and the amount of collected debris make a difference. A remaining leak, damaged fitting or capacity problem needs the appropriate repair assessment, not a promise that cleaning alone will solve it.

A useful first enquiry
What to send for a quotation
- Postcode, property type and number of storeys
- Which elevations need attention and whether clearance, washing or both are required
- Photographs taken safely from the ground
- Known leaks, damage, fragile surfaces or nearby overhead cables
- Access beneath the roofline, gates, parking and water availability
Beyond the visit
Results and aftercare
Afterwards, continue to watch how the rainwater system performs in wet weather from a safe location. Report persistent overflow or leaks to an appropriate repair specialist. Do not climb onto roofs or use ladders just to obtain enquiry photographs. Serviceability must be confirmed before any elevated work is agreed.
Photographs help the initial assessment. They do not replace any necessary inspection or agreement of the method, scope and access before work.
Your questions, answered
Does gutter cleaning include fascias and soffits?
Only if those items are included in the agreed scope. Tell us what you want cleaned so the quotation distinguishes clearance from exterior washing and identifies the elevations involved.
Will cleaning repair a leak?
No. Debris removal may help where a blockage is the cause, but leaking joints, broken fittings and alignment problems can require repairs. Kernow Clean does not present a cleaning quotation as a roofline repair service.
How often should gutters be checked?
The building and its surroundings determine the need. Leaf fall, storms and visible overflow are useful prompts to observe the system safely. A fixed interval is not right for every property.
Can every roofline be reached?
No. Height, obstructions, ground conditions and nearby hazards determine whether the work can be safely undertaken. Photographs help with an initial assessment but do not replace it.
